Home-Educated Creative Workshops 

Creative Makers offers daytime creative clubs for home-educated children and young people, providing a welcoming space to create, learn, meet others and develop confidence through the arts.

Based at Nunney Village Hall, near Frome, our home education programme is designed to offer something between a traditional art lesson and a social creative group. Sessions are structured and led by experienced creative practitioners, while still giving children plenty of freedom to experiment, follow their interests and develop their own ideas.

We keep our groups supportive and inclusive, with a relaxed atmosphere where children can work at their own pace. Our clubs can be particularly well suited to neurodivergent children, children with SEND or anxiety, and those who may find larger or more formal learning environments overwhelming.

Art Club | Ages 5–8

Our Art Club gives younger children the opportunity to explore art through drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, printmaking, craft, textiles, mixed media and creative play.

Each week introduces new ideas, artists, materials or techniques, while allowing children the freedom to interpret projects in their own way. We want children to enjoy the process of making rather than feeling there is a single 'right' outcome.

Alongside developing practical creative skills, the club provides an opportunity for home-educated children to spend time with their peers, make friendships and feel part of a creative community.

Arts Award Club | Ages 9–14

Wednesdays | 12:30–2:30pm

Our Arts Award Club is designed for older children and young people who would like to take their creativity a little further.

Young people will undertake more developed, project-based creative work, exploring areas such as drawing, painting, photography, textiles, illustration, mixed media, sculpture and digital creativity.

The group also provides the opportunity to work towards Arts Award. Creative Makers is an Arts Award accredited centre, and young people can build a portfolio that records their creative experiences, skills and development.

Arts Award gives children the opportunity to have their creative journey formally recognised while still allowing them considerable freedom over what they make and the creative areas they choose to explore.

It isn't necessary for every child attending the club to complete an Arts Award. Young people can also join simply because they would like a regular, stimulating creative space with others their own age.

A different kind of learning environment

Both clubs are intentionally designed to feel calm, friendly and low-pressure.

We recognise that home-educated children come to us for many different reasons. Some are confident learners looking for specialist creative teaching and new friendships. Others may have had difficult experiences within education or need more time to feel comfortable in a new environment.

Our approach is child-centred, inclusive and flexible. We encourage independence and experimentation while providing as much guidance and support as each child needs.

Above all, we want Creative Makers to be somewhere young people can make, explore, develop skills, build friendships and enjoy being creative with other people.

Club Information

Both clubs take place in the Meeting Room at Nunney Village Hall and cost £12 per session, with all materials provided.

We are currently launching a waiting list for both groups and hope to begin the first clubs in the week beginning 14 September, subject to sufficient interest.

Creative Makers CIC is a Somerset Council registered provider and an Arts Award accredited centre.
